I love my work as a counsellor and body psychotherapist. I love working with people and witnessing them gain clarity, compassion and understanding towards themselves and others. Observing how we experience life is part of the process of moving through to changing behaviors, redundant beliefs and thought patterns that no longer serve us. Being present and actively listening, following my clients experience and story, is a way to build trust in the therapeutic relationship. The process of change can be gently woven through to new awareness. By observing how we physically feel, and noticing how connected we are with our body and it's rhythms and movements, through exercise and breathe work, clients discover a better quality of life.
My own lived experience has been challenging and complex at times. The tools I have studied and continue to acquire in my practice, are used daily, and add immensely to my capacity as an experienced, compassionate, real therapist. Having lived overseas for half my life in culturally diverse settings, I have a lot of experience of other cultures. This has helped to prepare me for challenges experienced by my clients.
I am curious and non-judgmental about how my clients experience life, and have a passion for helping them find relief and renewed purpose. This feels fundamental to how I work.
My earlier years as a nurse gave me great experience and knowledge of the physiological functioning of the body. With that background, I have immersed myself in mental health care for the past decade.
My clinical practice as a counsellor and body psychotherapist brings the two worlds of “body and mind” together in an integrated approach to healthy and restorative change.
I have trained in nursing, Counselling and Body Psychotherapy as well as, Child Youth and Family Intervention and Trauma Informed Care.
I am a member of the Australian Counselling Association.
